Pray For Our Nation

As we PRAY FOR OUR NATION, we probably ought also pray for ourselves. We have the incredible opportunity in America to participate in the governance of our nation. We can actively campaign for, vote for, and finance those we support. And we can even speak and protest against those we don't. With this great privilege comes a great responsibility - Especially for those of us whose lives bear the name of Christ in everything that we say and do.

Elections have often been challenging for followers of Christ to navigate in a manner that both supports the nation while also pleasing Christ.

John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, spoke some words of much needed wisdom on this matter: In preparation for an election he advised Christians in the following ways:

1. To vote...for the person they judged most worthy. 2. To speak no evil of the person they voted against. 3. To take care their spirits were not sharpened against those that voted on the other side.

This is a great way to pray for ourselves as the next year brings with it an election and many temptations to sin and opportunities to witness.
