Why do bad things happen to good people? That only happened once, and He volunteered. ~ R.C. Sproul Jr.
2 Corinthians 5:21 - For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
How easily the thought creeps in to our hearts and minds that we deserve better! God ought consider Himself lucky to have us on His side.
It seems that the heart skewed in this direction follows a pathway toward entitlement and ultimately disappointment. Romans 2:16 says that God will one day judge the secrets of men ... and many of those secrets will be things that surprise us about ourselves.
But a heart skewed in the direction of Christ will find itself on a pathway toward gratitude and generosity. It will be gracious toward others and critical toward self, instead of the other way around.
Only one Good Person ever suffered. And He did it voluntarily for lost and pride-filled sinners like me.
