Wednesday Wisdom - December 2

There is a fine line between wanting God to use you for his glory and wanting everyone to know it.

It is really important to let people know how grateful you are when they love and serve (you or others). Hebrews 10:24 exhorts us to "consider how to stir up one another to love and good works." So the above does not mean that we ought never praise the love and good works we see in one another.

But it is a reminder of how deceitful the human heart is and how quickly we are able to turn a good thing into an idol. When we demand to be recognized and thanked for our love and good works, we might be letting the darkness of our hearts show, for we are all prone to serve for the applause of men rather than the glory and delight of God.

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. ~ Matthew 6:1
