"In past times people did not go to church to be made happy; they went to have their misery explained to them." - Philip Rieff
I've felt a lot of misery lately. Being locked down in your home, unable to freely head to work, gather with friends, stop at a store on the way home from work, watch a child's sporting event, take a spouse to dinner, watch a movie, and on and on...it's misery.
But what makes it miserable? The short answer is that we were created to enjoy life, build relationships, celebrate together, gather in worship, etc.
The church stands in a unique circumstance right now as we seek to explain the current misery in the light of the Gospel. May God use these unpleasant day to lead us to a lasting joy.
