You cannot be whatever you want to be. But you can be everything that God has called and gifted you to be.
A popular mantra today is that you can be whatever you want to be. While it is certainly true that there are individuals whose lives have been incredible and inspirational stories of journeys from rags to riches as they have overcome insurmountable obstacles. These are definitely the exception and not the rule.
It is certainly fun to be a kid on the basketball court imagining that you are your favorite player. Or to be a musician envisioning yourself playing first chair in a famous symphony, or to a packed stadium audience. But the reality is ... most of us are gonna be average. I know it isn't popular, and it doesn't sell books, but this is the fact - Most people are average.
Unfortunately, the world tells us that this isn't good enough. And that average isn't special. But it can be. When we give up being everything the world says we have to be, and focus instead on being exactly what God has made us to be. Then we find out that we are extraordinary, because at that moment we realize that we are His handiwork, and His work is always worthy of praise.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 6:10)
