About the event:

Why: This summer's olympic games marked 100 years since Eric Liddell ran in the 1924 Paris Olympics. His epic true story of training for and running in the Olympics is told in this classic film. Eric was a committed christian man who went on to be a missionary in China. He and his British teammates were a remarkable group of athletes. The film follows in particular Eric and his teammate Harold Abrams and the very different motivations they have for running.   Friends, I can't think of a better illustration than this film of the themes that we have been preaching through in Galatians this summer, nor a better time (see below) to show it than this summer. Come and enjoy a powerful movie that articulates the good news of Jesus Christ and the freedom believers have in him. So, if you have never seen it, it is SO worth seeing, and if you have seen it, watching it again is still worth it. It is my favorite movie!

When: Sunday, August 18th at 6:30pm

Where: Church Library or MPR

Who: All are Welcome!! The movie is family-friendly, but may be a little difficult to follow for those under 10 years old.

What to Bring: Bring a snack/dessert to share. Drinks provided.

"As the Olympics return to Paris this year, public viewings have been held in several countries, offering a timely reminder of how “Chariots of Fire” still carries a charming appeal and uplifting – even life-saving – message. After the film came out, I must have got – and this is not an exaggeration – at least half a dozen letters from people who said that the film had made them decide not to commit suicide, that life was worth living,” says [producer David Puttnam]. The film has got a way of really, really speaking to people … something much more than we envisaged or probably had been put into it. It’s got a life of its own.” -George Ramsay CNN in his article posted Fri. July 19, 2024 (https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/19/sport/chariots-of-fire-1924-paris-olympics-spt-intl/index.html)
